How has it already been one month, baby boy? You came into this world during a stressful time in our lives and brought a sense of calm. You are our favorite Christmas gift.
It’s funny to compare the first month with a first and second child. With Rosemary, apart from the stressors of new parenthood, we were able to enjoy the calm snuggles of a tiny baby all day. With you, though, we’ve had to carve out time to focus on you specifically because we are chasing a toddler around at the same time. Fortunately, both Chris and I are home for the time being because he has an awesome paternity leave, so we’ve been able to make sure you get all the sweet baby cuddles that you need and we want.
Speaking of cuddles, you really love them. There are times at night where you get a little fussy, but if Chris picks you up and puts you on his chest, you calm right down and fall asleep. Please stay this way! I am enjoying every second of it. When I get overwhelmed by the stress of two kids and the sicknesses that we’ve had this month, I like to just pick you up, hold you on my chest, and give you kisses on the head. Newborn snuggles are so calming and sweet!
Over the past week or two, you’ve become more alert. You still sleep a lot during the day, but you’ll spend some time looking around. You are amazingly strong! You have been able to hold your head up since you were born and turned yourself over within the first week! You consistently turn yourself to your back any time you are placed on your tummy. You aren’t supposed to be able to do that for a few more months!
You are so happy and tolerant. Rosemary is constantly “hugging” you and prodding you with your paci and her toys, but you are pretty chill about it. Sometimes you start crying, but it never lasts long. I am so thankful that you are so easy going because I think it’s helped Rosemary bond with you. I’m excited to see your relationship grow!
Reid, you are such a precious boy. I feel like I am still getting to know you, but already love you so much! We feel so blessed to have you in our family and are so thankful that you are happy and healthy. I can’t wait to watch you grow and develop your own personality. Happy first month!
